There are two open positions: one in Dosso, Niger, and one in Tahoua, Niger, with no possibility of reassignment between the regions.
Over the past 40 years, the international division of MCD Global Health (MCD) has worked to strengthen health systems through integrated, sustainable, and locally driven interventions across several public health sectors. MCD collaborates with donors, national governments, the private sector, health agencies, communities, and local stakeholders to improve health and save lives in the following areas: malaria control; maternal, neonatal and child health; water, sanitation, and hygiene; tuberculosis; HIV/AIDS; Zika; and other communicable diseases.
MCD is currently seeking two (02) Regional Malaria Diagnostics Specialists, one based in Dosso, and one based in Tahoua, Niger, for the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative Advancing Health and Malaria Services (PMI AHMS) Program in Niger. The selected candidates will contribute to achieving the project’s objectives to reduce malaria-related mortality and improve maternal and child health outcomes through integrated interventions and strengthened decentralized health systems.
Overall Job Responsibilities:
Each Specialist will be assigned to one duty station (Dosso or Tahoua) and will report to the Malaria Technical Specialist. The Regional Malaria Diagnostics Specialist is responsible for providing technical assistance and capacity building in malaria diagnostics to Ministry of Health (MoH) staff at regional, district, facility, and community levels.
The Specialist will support improvements in malaria diagnostic quality through supervision, training, mentoring, coaching, and on-site visits to laboratories, health facilities, and community health workers (CHWs). S/he will assist in strengthening QA/QC systems, updating diagnostic tools and guidance, and supporting data collection and analysis.
Specific Responsibilities:
In coordination with the AHMS Case Management Technical Advisor, the National Malaria Control Program (PNLP), and under the supervision of the Malaria Technical Specialist, the Specialist will:
Technical Support & Capacity Building
Contribute to the development, revision, and updating of malaria diagnostic tools, SOPs, manuals, supervision guides, and related documents, including QA/QC.
Collaborate with regional and district PNLP/MoH teams to:
o Continuously assess the competencies of laboratory technicians, health facility staff, and community health workers in malaria diagnostics (microscopy, RDTs, and other methods).
o Develop and implement tailored training and supervision plans.
o Strengthen the Ministry of Health’s capacity to conduct regular supportive supervision, mentoring, and post-training follow-up.
Training & Quality Assurance
Contribute to organizing trainings of trainers (ToT) and trainings of supervisors in malaria diagnostics.
Provide training on stock management for malaria diagnostic supplies (tests, reagents, consumables).
Support the collection, monitoring, and analysis of malaria diagnostics-related data.
Project-Level Contributions
Document AHMS best practices in malaria diagnostics, support their dissemination, and collaborate with PNLP/MoH teams for potential scale-up.
Contribute to operational research related to malaria diagnostics, if required.
Participate in regional-level AHMS meetings and other relevant national or district-level meetings as needed.
