Job description

There is one position open for a Regional Integrated Maternal & Child Health – Malaria (MCH–Malaria) Specialist based in Dosso (no possibility of reassignment to another region).

For more than 40 years, the international division of MCD Global Health (MCD) has worked to strengthen health systems through integrated, sustainable, and locally driven interventions across various public health sectors. MCD collaborates with donors, national governments, the private sector, local communities, and other stakeholders to improve health and save lives in areas including malaria control, maternal and child health, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Zika, and other communicable diseases.

 

MCD is currently seeking a Regional Integrated Maternal & Child Health – Malaria Specialist (MCH–Malaria) to serve in Dosso, Niger under the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative Advancing Health and Malaria Services (PMI AHMS) Program. The selected candidate will support integrated interventions to reduce malaria-related mortality and improve maternal, neonatal, and child health outcomes by strengthening the decentralized health system.

 

Overall Job Responsibilities:

The Regional Integrated MCH/Malaria Specialist will be responsible for supporting the Ministry of Health in improving the prevention and integrated management of maternal and child health (MCH) and malaria at facility and community levels, including:

  • Prevention and case management

  • Malaria in pregnancy (MiP)

  • Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC)

  • Antenatal care

  • Safe motherhood

  • Newborn health

  • Community-level MCH/Malaria activities (including iCCM)

 

The MCH/Malaria Specialist will also support training and capacity building for health facility staff and community health workers, household-level prevention and health promotion activities, supervision, data use for decision-making, coordination, and implementation of national guidelines.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical Support & Capacity Building

  • Strengthen the skills of health facility staff and community health workers in integrated MCH–malaria interventions.

  • Provide training, mentoring, coaching, and supportive supervision at the regional, district, and community levels.

  • Support implementation of quality improvement approaches in MCH and malaria services.

 

Service Delivery Support & Supervision

  • Support implementation of key interventions: MiP, SMC, ANC, newborn health, and integrated community case management.

  • Participate in supportive supervision visits (including OTSS, when applicable).

  • Support data collection, monitoring, interpretation, and use to improve service quality.

 

Coordination & Implementation

  • Collaborate with district and regional health authorities to strengthen program coordination.

  • Support the roll-out and adherence to national MCH–malaria guidelines.

  • Support health promotion and behavior change activities at community and household levels.

Job requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree.

  • A master’s degree in medical sciences (public health, nursing, etc.) is an asset.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in maternal and child health, including malaria.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in capacity building for health facilities, including components of health system strengthening.

  • Experience in community health, ideally in integrated community case management (iCCM).

  • Experience with quality improvement approaches is an asset.

  • Experience in supportive supervision (e.g., OTSS, coaching, mentoring, or similar).

  • Ability to work in a demanding and evolving environment.

  • Ability to travel within and outside the region.

  • Proficiency in French and a local language is required; knowledge of English is an asset.

  • Knowledge of, or experience working in, the Dosso region is an advantage.
