Essential Job Functions:
The primary focus of the MCH Cultural Broker is to use their deep understanding about the health values, beliefs, and practices of their cultural group or community, combined with their knowledge of navigating the health care system to bridge gaps between community members from different cultures and service providers. This position is integral in ensuring culturally comepetent care, fostering collaboration, and ultimately improving the relationships between agencies and families.
The MCH Cultural Broker is an expert within maternal and child health topic areas as well as a cultural leader within their communities.
Responsibilities include consulting, evaluating and integrating operational practices, procedures and activities in support of the outcomes of policy or program initiatives, and may include providing leadership on selected activities involving other personnel, task force or committees, advocates or members of the public.
Job duties:
Training Coordination and Community Outreach duties:
· Serve as a cultural broker and provide outreach communities in Maine.
· Utilize multilingual skills to effectively communicate and provide services to a diverse population.
· Assist families in managing core stressors related to resettlement, including emotional, social, and logistical challenges.
· Facilitate cultural understanding, fostering collaboration among service providers and systems to enhance support for families.
· Work to alleviate the stress associated with isolation and acculturation by connecting families with appropriate resources, services and support networks.
· Collaborate with state programs and providers to strengthen service delivery and improve outcomes for families.
· Support community outreach by building and maintaining strong working relationships with diverse partners and community-based organizations to improve working relationships between agencies and families.
· Provides support services for families interacting with women’s health providers, perinatal systems, specialty care providers for children with complex medical needs.
· Consults with state and local health agencies to assist in the development and implementation of health promotion interventions and education to become more culturally competent.
· Oversees and/or develops resource libraries, educational literature, films, and other professional educational materials and equipment in order to present to interested groups.
