Job description

Over the past 40 years, MCD Global Health has worked to strengthen health systems through integrated, sustainable, and locally driven interventions across several public health sectors. MCD collaborates with donors, national governments, the private sector, health agencies, communities, and local stakeholders to improve health and save lives in the following areas: malaria prevention and control; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal, neonatal, and child health; health system strengthening; HIV/AIDS; Zika; and other communicable diseases. 

MCD is currently seeking multiple candidates to support Gavi 6.0. Please note that this is contingent upon MCD being pre-qualified and entering into framework agreements, followed by success in subsequent call-off contracts and their respective geographic and technical scopes of work. The timeline for these positions is not yet announced, but they will generally fall between 2026 and 2030. Additionally, these positions might require various levels of effort, ranging from part-time to full-time depending on programmatic needs and budget considerations.  

Job requirements

There will be multiple successful candidates fulfilling various roles. In general, they must meet the following criteria: 

  • Regional experience in one or more of the following:  

    • East Africa 

    • Southern Africa 

    • West Africa 

  • National experience in one or more of the following: 

    • Angola 

    • Benin 

    • Lesotho 

    • Madagascar 

    • Mozambique 

    • Niger 

    • Uganda 

  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in immunization. 

  • Ability to travel extensively in countries listed above.  

  • Technical expertise and qualifications in one or more of the following:

    • Service delivery:  

      • Proven record leading and providing technical support to national Ministry of Health/ immunization programs to reach zero dose and under-immunized children alongside partners (WHO, UNICEF, Gavi etc.);  

      • Expertise in integrating the delivery of services to improve efficiency, regularity, reliability of, and equitable access to planned immunization activities with a focus on zero-dose and underimmunized children and missed communities;  

      • Advanced degree in Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field. 

    • Data monitoring, evaluation, learning, and AEFI:  

      • Strong understanding of M&E principles, methods, and tools (including digital tools), and a proven record designing and implementing immunization programs’ MEL systems;  

      • Substantial experience tracking, monitoring, and evaluating progress in implementing immunization/EPI initiatives in low and middle-income countries;  

      • Experience supporting national and sub-national health teams in improving data quality and data use to improve immunization program goals;  

      • Experience in AEFI surveillance and response, pharmacovigilance, and implementation of clinical trials;  

      • Advanced degree in Statistics, Information Technology, Public Health, Economics, or related field. 

    • Disease surveillance:  

      • Experience in supporting national MOHs with modeling and other analytics to support country prioritization of new vaccines and antigens;

      • Experience supporting countries with planning and preparatory activities leading to the launch of a new vaccine (including but not restricted to a malaria vaccine), campaign, enhance immunization activity or switch, including technical oversight;  

      • Advanced degree in Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field. 

    • Demand generation and community engagement:  

      • Expertise in social behavior change (SBC) and demand generation in immunization, with a focus on: project design and implementation, capacity building, social mobilization, community engagement, SBC strategy development, and SBC interventions (including digital engagement activities) relevant to vaccine demand generation and vaccine hesitancy, among others;  

      • Experience working with national immunization programs to drive uptake during vaccination campaigns;  

      • Advanced degree in Public Health, Communications, Social Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, or related field.
